“Meet the Master”Top Academic Forum Prof. CK Law from Princeton University Gave an Academic Lecture in MECE
Prof. CK Law, the Robert H. Goddard Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Princeton University and the director of the Center for Combustion Research at Tsinghua University paid a academic communication visit at MECE in the morning of May 18, 2017, he was welcomed and received by Prof. Qu xiaoting, Vice Dean of graduate school of BJTU in the office. A talk was proceeded by both parties afterwards in a cordial and friendly atmosphere.
Later this day, Prof. CK Law gave an academic lecture entitled “Some recent advances in fundamental and transdisciplinary combustion” in our school. Dr. Pan Xianzhong, the vice-party secretary of MECE, was presented at the lecture and hosted it; Associate Prof. Ning Zhi, Zhang Xin and other teaching faculties attended this lecture as well as graduate students from relevant majors.
Chung K. Law received his Ph.D. in Engineering Physics from the University of California at San Diego in 1973, and currently is the Robert H. Goddard Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Princeton University and the director of the Center for Combustion Research at Tsinghua University. His research interests cover various physical and chemical aspects of fundamental combustion phenomena, with applications to propulsion, energy, fuels and the environment. He has published over 500 journal articles, with over 10,000 SCI citations by others and an SCI h-index over 60. For his research accomplishments he has been honored with a number of professional awards, and an honorary Doctor of Engineering from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2012. He is a fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), the American Physical Society (APS), the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (AAAS), and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), a member of the US National Academy of Engineering (NAE), and a past president of the Combustion Institute.
In this academic lecture, Dr. Pan Xianzhong first briefly introduced the general information and academic achievements of Prof. CK Law. Then Prof. CK Law primarily talked about the core discipline and expanded view of combustion, the lecture mainly covered topics on the Dynamics of Droplet Collision, Stability & Morphology of Expanding Spherical Flames, Development of Reduced-Order Reaction Mechanisms for Large-scale Computations and Some Recent Interests in Dynamics of Detonations. The Q&A round after the lecture boosted a warm and friendly ending of this academic activity, teachers and students from correlating majors enthusiastically communicate with Prof. CK Law for details and critical questions of these topics.
At last, on behalf of MECE, Dr. Pan Xianzhong, the vice-party secretary of MECE, presented a gift to Prof. CK Law, this academic communication event was successfully closed.
