MECE Held a Symposium on CDIO for Teachers
On 30th June, Prof. HONG Wu, international coordinator from Ostfold University, was invited to give a lecture on the application of CDIO for the faculty in MECE. During his lecture, Prof. HONG Wu quoted many real cases to make his report more applicable to real life. Besides, Prof. E Mingcheng, head of MECE Development Sub-center, hosted this symposium.
Prof. HONG Wu made a brief introduction about Ostfold University firstly. Then they made some in-depth exchanges on CDIO and talent cultivation. Afterwards, Prof. Wu recounted many essential abilities possessed young graduates, such as interpersonal communication, expertise, critical thinking, working experience, teamwork ability, EQ, leadership skills, etc. As graduates shall have those skills and capabilities mentioned, Ostfold University made careful course plans under CDIO framework. Meanwhile, Ostfold University focused on cooperation with enterprises, which led to their initiation of many enterprise experiences. While participating in those enterprise programs, students became much more competitive.
Later on, Prof. Wu made some comparison on the selection and guidance of graduation design between Chinese and Norwegian universities, which was quite enlightening.
As is known to all, CDIO is an innovative education framework aimed at cultivating outstanding engineers. The core idea of CDIO is to create a real workplace environment for students by carrying out the process of “conceive”, “design”, “implement” and “operate” during product development.
After Prof. Wu’s symposium, teachers at MECE successfully get some general knowledge about CDIO, which could serve as a guidance for future designation of teaching objectives and educational reform. We believe that this symposium can make our educational philosophy down-to-earth.
