“Meet the Master” Top Academic Forum Prof. Jeffrey Ge from Stony Brook University in New York gave an academic lecture in MECE

July 27th, 2017, Prof. Jeffrey Ge from University of New York at stony brook who was invited by Prof. Sheng Guo has given an academic lecture entitled: Motion mechanism design of my view: review and expectation at MECE building 802 meeting room. Prof. Yuefa Fang attended the meeting which was hosted by Prof. Sheng Guo.


Prof. Jeffrey Ge received his double bachelor degree of mechanical engineering and electrical engineering from Shanghai Jiaotong University in 1985. He got his master degree of mechanical engineering from University of Pennsylvania in 1986, and doctor degree of mechanical engineering from University of California in Irvine at 1990. Now he works at University of New York at stony brook, department of mechanical engineering. The main research field of Prof. Ge involves mechanical system design, robotics and manufacturing automation, computer aided design and manufacturing. He has successively presided over 8 scientific research projects and tasks of the National Science Foundation. He has supervised 8 PHD students, and published more than 100 academic theses.


Prof. Ge has served as an associate editor at four international academic journals, including ASME Journal of Mechanical Design and ASME Journal of Mechanisms and Robotics. He has also been designated several times as program and meeting chairman at international academic conferences which are sponsored by the American society of mechanical engineers (ASME). Prof. Ge has repeatedly worked as the natural science foundation (NSF) audit team members as well as reviewers of Hong Kong, Singapore and Austrian government scientific research projects. Prof. Ge is an ASME Fellow, who served as presedent of ASME Mechanisms and Robotics Committee. He is also one of the pioneers and experts of the international emerging discipline: Computational motor geometry. Recently, he was elected as the chairman of IFToMM at America. In addition, Prof. Ge is a distinguished professor of Shanghai Jiaotong University. He received China national natural science foundation for young scholars of overseas cooperation research fund award in 2007. He also has been selected in The Recruitment Program of Global Experts.


In the lecture, Prof. Ge stated the importance of design in the mechanical design aspects of mechanisms, involved in the development of the theory of mechanism design, the difficulties of mechanism design and innovation, the future study method of mechanism and several issues concerned. Then, Prof. Ge discussed the development and key technology of mechanism innovation design future. He thinks the aim to study on mechanism is applied to the human, the ultimate goal of mechanism structure is according to the requirements of the task design become a main trend in the field of mechanical design. He also thinks the specific design compared to the corresponding task directly by the mechanism to mechanism's research is relatively difficult. At last, Prof. Ge systematically expounds its current research. The report attracted professional teachers and graduate students major in mechanical design and theory, mechanical engineering. At the end of the report, Professor Ge discussed and exchanged with some questions raised by students in warm atmosphere.
