Students and Teacher from University of Portland Visited MECE in BJTU
On October 17th, a group of students from University of Portland (UP) visited MECE in Beijing Jiaotong University. They were here to attend the lecture given by Prof. Wang Wenjing from MECE. At the beginning, a professor from Global Engineering in UP briefly introduced his university and the major of those 12 students. And he also mentioned that they will stay in China for one week. They were happy to hear about the high speed trains in China. This lecture is joined by Prof. Wang, Ms. Li Lulin and students from UP and BJTU.
Then, Prof. Wang Wenjing began her lecture. She first introduced the city of Beijing and BJTU. Then, she talked about the development of high-speed rails in Japan, Germany and France. We got to know that Japan first initiated its construction of Shinkansen in 1964. However, Germany has met some difficulties during its development of HSR. In this section, Prof. Wang divided her discussion into three periods. In the fourth period (from 2008 on), the development of China HSR has witnessed its great leap. We could see from the lecture that the mileage of China high-speed rails is increasing steadily during these years. Meanwhile, EMU is also expanding. China’s EMU network is now supported by 9 key technologies. In the end, Prof. Wang put a question mark under the period 5. She would like us to guess the world leader of railway industry in the future. Then they had a heated discussion about the lecture.
After that, students from UP visited the lab for EMU trains. Under the guidance of the professor here, students from UP experienced the simulation of EMU driving system. At last, they took a walk around the campus and ended their journey in BJTU happily.
